Alto groups is a feature within Alto prospecting that lets you build a list of properties from the On Market screen and send it straight into Alto as a custom list.
Instead of rebuilding your prospecting lists in Alto by hand, you can create and update them in a couple of clicks. Groups you create in Alto prospecting and groups created directly in Alto are shown together, so both systems always show the same picture.
If you're new to Alto prospecting, read the Alto prospecting - Overview first to learn what it is, how it works and how to get set up.
Understanding the contact dots
On the On Market screen, a coloured dot next to each property shows whether that property already has a contact in Alto. Hover over a dot to see the contact's name and contact type.
| Dot | What it means |
|---|---|
| Red | Potential vendor |
| Blue | Potential landlord |
| Red and Blue | Potential Vendor and landlord (both contact types are in Alto) |
| Grey | Archived contact |
| No dot | Not in Alto |
Creating a new group
Follow these steps to create a new group and send it to Alto:
- From the On Market screen in Alto prospecting, click the contact dot next to each property you want to include. Selected properties show a highlighted ring
- Click Alto Group in the toolbar. A panel opens with two tabs: New Group and Existing Groups
- On the New Group tab, enter a name for your group
- Click Send to Alto
The group is created in Alto as a custom list of type Property, using the name you entered. Your team can then action it from Alto.
Best practice
Use clear, consistent group names (for example, the area and campaign type) so your team can find the right list quickly in Alto.
Adding properties to an existing group
You can add more properties to a group at any time. There are two ways to do this.
From the New Group tab
- Select the properties you want to add by clicking their contact dots
- Click Alto Group in the toolbar
- On the New Group tab, switch to Add to existing group
- Choose the group from the dropdown
- Click Add to Group
From the Existing Groups tab
- Select the properties you want to add by clicking their contact dots
- Click Alto Group in the toolbar, then open the Existing Groups tab
- Find the group and click Add selected
The update is sent to the matching list in Alto.
Managing your groups
The Existing Groups tab shows every group on your account, whether it was created in Alto prospecting or directly in Alto. Each group is labelled with where it was created, and shows its property count, creation date and last activity.
From here you can:
- View a group - expand it to see the properties it contains
- Rename a group - edit the name inline; the change is saved immediately
- Delete a group - you'll be asked to confirm before anything is removed
Automatic archiving
A group with no activity for 30 days is archived automatically. Archived groups:
- Are hidden from the default view
- Become read-only
- Are not deleted - use the Show archived toggle to find them again
Frequently asked questions
Where do my groups go in Alto?
They're sent directly to your Alto account as a custom list of type Property, using the name you gave the group in Alto prospecting.
Can I see groups that were created directly in Alto?
Yes. The Existing Groups tab shows groups created in Alto and in Alto prospecting side by side, each labelled with where it was created.
What happens if I don't use a group for a while?
After 30 days with no activity, the group is archived. It becomes read-only and is hidden from the default view, but nothing is deleted. Use the Show archived toggle to find it.
Can I add properties to a group after I've created it?
Yes, at any time. See Adding properties to an existing group above.
By using Alto groups, you can move prospecting leads into Alto without re-entering data, keep contact status visible at a glance, and manage all your lists in one place.
Because inactive groups archive themselves after 30 days, your Alto lists stay tidy without extra admin.
