Two step verification (also known as Two-Factor Authentication or Multi-Factor Authentication) adds an extra layer of security to your account in case your password is stolen.

If you're a Group Administrator, you can enable two step verification for all your staff. Alternatively, it can be enabled on an individual user basis.

Enabling two step verification for all staff as a Group Administrator

  1. Click Tools on the main navigation bar
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Templates and admin
  3. On the side menu, under System Tools, click System Administration
  4. Click Group Users
  5. Click Edit next to each user you need to enable verification for
  6. Scroll down and tick Two Step Verification

  7. Scroll down and click Save

The next time the user logs in, they'll be required to enter their phone number for two step verification before accessing Alto.

They'll be given the choice to remember their device for 30 days so they don't have to log in with two steps each time.

 Note

Whenever a SMS text message is sent as part of the two step verification process, your agency will incur the cost of this

FAQ's

  • Will I receive an SMS text message each time I log in?

You'll receive an SMS text message each time unless you tick the box that appears on subsequent log ins, labelled Remember this device for 30 days. If you tick that box, each time you log in from the same computer or mobile device in a 30 day period, you will not be asked to enter a code.

  • I have two step verification enabled but my phone number has changed, how do I update my number?

If you still have access to Alto (because you have selected to not be asked for a code for 30 days or still have access to your old number), from Account settings and within the Your account tab, you can click Change 2-step verification number.

You can then decide to Log out later to enter the new mobile number, or Log out now to update it immediately. On your next login, you can enter the new number you would like to use for two step verification.
If you no longer have access to your old number and need to go through verification in order to access Alto, click Try another method and access Alto via email verification instead to trigger the update of the mobile number.

  • I’m a Group Administrator, how do I change the phone number that is used for two step verification for a member of staff?

Changing the mobile number on a user’s profile will no longer change the number they use for two step verification. Only the user can update the mobile number by accessing their Account Settings.
