SMS text messaging is enabled by default when you join Alto so you can send text messages to your contacts (clients) from multiple places in Alto.

Enabling SMS text messaging

SMS text messaging is enabled by default - for reference, it's enabled as a permission for each existing role in Group Roles:

  1. Click Tools on the main navigation bar
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Templates and admin
  3. On the side menu, under System Tools, click System Administration
  4. Click Group Roles
  5. Alongside all the relevant roles (default and custom), one at a time, click Edit
  6. Scroll down to SMS and you'll see it has Full access

You may want to set up SMS text or email reminders for viewings and market appraisals - for more information, click here.

Disabling SMS text messaging

 Note

You will need access to System Administration to disable SMS text messaging. Your appointed Group Administrator will have access to these permissions

To turn off all SMS text messaging functionality entirely, there are several steps that you as a Group Administrator will need to follow.

First, you'll need to disable it as a permission for each existing role:

  1. Click Tools on the main navigation bar
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Templates and admin
  3. On the side menu, under System Tools, click System Administration
  4. Click Group Roles
  5. Alongside all the relevant roles (default and custom), one at a time, click Edit
  6. Scroll down to SMS and select No Access
  7. Scroll down and click Save

Next, you'll need to make sure to disable automated text or email reminders that are sent to owners/applicants. This is done via the branch settings:

  1. Click Tools on the main navigation bar
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Templates and admin
  3. On the side menu, under System Tools, click System Administration
  4. Click Branches
  5. Alongside all the relevant branches, one at a time, click Edit
  6. Ensure that Default Appointment Reminder Delivery is set to Email or None
  7. Scroll down and click Save

Finally, you'll need to make sure that your SMS templates are not actively in use. If these are still being used, it may cause SMS messages to still be sent out. The status of templates still in play would be Active Selected.

To rectify your templates:

  1. Click Tools on the main navigation bar
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Templates and admin
  3. On the side menu, under System Tools, click System Administration
  4. Click SMS Templates
  5. Alongside each of your sms templates, one at a time, click Edit
  6. Ensure the Status is set to Not Required
  7. Scroll down and click Save
